Traffic Management Information for Galway Christmas Market 2024
The Galway Christmas Market will run this year from Friday November 8th to Sunday January 5th 2025
The Market opening hours are:
Monday to Wednesday: 12 noon to 8 pm (Bars to 10 pm)
Thursday to Saturday 10 am to 10 pm
Sunday 10 am to 8 pm (Bars till 10 pm)
The set-up of the market will begin on Friday, November 1st, the market will close on Sunday, December 22nd and many elements will be decommissioned by Friday, December 24th. The elements remaining between Dec 26th and Jan 5th will be fully decommissioned by Jan 8th, 2025.
As part of the Christmas Market Galway licence application this year, Galway City Council made an order to temporarily close the following road in order to facilitate the event.
Road Closure: Road name: Eyre Square North
Period of closure: Midnight Sunday 3rd November 2024 to Wednesday 8th January 2025 inclusive.
Traffic diversions in place during the Christmas Market: (See map for full details on the closure and alternative routes)
- All non-taxi traffic excluded from Eyre Square North to be diverted at the junction of Eyre Street and Bothar Irwin via Bothar Irwin, Bothar na mBan and Prospect Hill.
Alternative Routes: Alternative routes for traffic will be via signposted diversion routes.
Pedestrian access will be maintained through signposted routes at all times.
Re-location of disabled parking bays: The disabled parking bays which are currently located on Eyre Square North, (outside the Bank of Ireland) shall be relocated Opposite Hibernia House and will be clearly sign posted.
Re-location of the Taxi Rank: The Taxi rank which is currently located on Eyre Square North will be re-located to 3 locations:
- The loading bays on Eyre Square North (a) running north between Hibernian Hse and The Charcoal Grill from 11:00 to 06:00 daily and (b) on the opposite of the road behind the Liam Mellows statue running north, and to Eyre Square East from 11:00 to 06:00 daily. Outside these hours these continue to serve as loading bays.
- The loading bay and bus lane on Forster Street, Monday to Saturday 16:00 to 06:00
- The loading bay on Eyre Sq East from 11:00 to 06:00 daily. Outside these hours these it will continue to serve as a loading bay.
